Heating

MICHIGAN WINTERS ARE TOUGH ON ALL OF US.  WE ASSIST FAMILIES SUFFERING FROM THE COLD TO MAINTAIN WARM HOMES!

BRRRRRRR… JACK FROST IS ALWAYS ON HIS WAY SOON IN MICHIGAN!

When Jack Frost is on the pumpkins, we Michiganders know that winter is just around the corner. And with the cold winds outside, our thoughts at We Care turn to helping keep homes warm. Our Heat Assistance ministry is open as of November 1rst and we’re already receiving requests for help in paying astronomical bills. Will it be a mild winter in southwest Michigan…..or will the winter storms blowing in off of Lake Michigan bring bitter weather making the cost of heat skyrocket? We will soon find out!

Although Warm Your Heart Month isn’t until February, we always gratefully accept financial contributions for our Heat Fund. The perfect holiday gift for someone who has everything is a contribution in their honor. Send a contribution for heat along with the person or people you wish to honor and we will gladly send them a Christmas card informing them of your thoughtfulness- (don’t forget to send us their address along with their name if you want that card sent). This outreach program is called “Christmas Warmth” and is guaranteed to touch hearts, those that you honor as well as those that receive the blessing of heat assistance!

If you need assistance with your heat bill, please follow the steps below.

  1. Contact the Department of Human Services and/or your caseworker to appy for State Emergency Relief assistance.  (This can now be done on-line at https://www.mibridges.michigan.gov/access/).  They will also refer you to Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency (Van Buren County) or ACRDC (Allegan County).
  2. Once you have received the DHS Decision Notice, call the We Care office to set up an appointment to see a We Care Heat Specialist.
  3. Bring the following with you to your appointment - the Decision Notice, your bill or shut-off notice from the gas company, and paperwork from any other agencies or organizations that are helping with your bill.

Contact your local We Care Office to schedule an appointment to receive assistance with your heat bill or to donate to the Heat Ministry.

ONE MORE THING ABOUT OUR HEAT ASSISTANCE MINISTRY!

It is not too early to begin thinking about the possibility of sponsoring a fundraiser during We Care’s Warm Your Heart Month in February. Everyone, from individuals to church groups to civic organizations to businesses are invited to sponsor the event of their choice in order to raise dollars that will help families struggling to pay their heat bills. Let us know just what February event you are interested in sponsoring and we will add it to our Warm Your Heart calendar of events. If you want to help but need ideas of what to do or how to go about it, simply call us. We have lots of ideas to share!
