Food Pantries:

  • Food Pantry at First Congregational U.C.C., South Haven

  • New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Bangor
  • Food Pantry at Lily of the Valley Church, Covert
  • Food Pantry at Bravo Community Church, Pullman

OVER 17,000 FED IN 2011!

We Care’s food pantries and dinner ministries are essential to our communities. Everyone should agree with that!

Our warmest thanks to First Congregational Church in South Haven, Church of Christ in South Haven, New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Bangor, Lily of the Valley Church in Covert along with Bravo House of Mercy and Douglas Christian Neighbors in Pullman for hosting pantries where families can receive nutritionally balanced and well planned packages of groceries. It takes many volunteers to collect and distribute these food stuffs and the hope that these goods provide. There are also folks that spend time shopping for food that is not donated and those that package the items, and then there are those that share financial donations needed to purchase stock. Consider the generosity of those that share food stock whenever someone is collecting and the people with organizational skills that organize the many collections that take place within our communities annually. All of these people (and many more) share of their time weekly to make sure that hungry folks are fed!

Our warmest thanks to First Congregational Church and First United Methodist Church in South Haven for hosting weekly dinners where food and fellowship abound! Organizing these weekly support services takes a multitude of people who work hard to provide nutritious hot meals. At First UMC, the Open Door dinner is served every week year-round at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Many churches, civic groups and individuals take turns cooking and providing dinner with the outcome being a delicious meal each week. The First Congregational Church’s Phoenix Street Supper is served at 6:00 p.m. every Thursday night from November through May each year. All food stuffs for these dinners are provided by the Phoenix Street Café, a most generous gift to our community! Scouts and other groups assist in providing the manpower to serve these scrumptious meals there. The two churches provide- the space, volunteers to organize and work, table service and… the warmest welcome anyone could ever want! Just think of the dollars that families and individuals save when attending one or both dinners weekly!

All of the churches, all of the individuals, all of those who donate… are truly blessed to be a blessing! Thanks to you all for sharing your faith and touch the lives and hearts of families who benefit from your generosity!

NEW FOOD PANTRY IN BANGOR

Praises for New Jerusalem Baptist Church!  On March 6th a Grand Opening of their food pantry was held  as they opened their doors to help those in the community that need food assistance. Each week they will be serving five families a nutritious food package that consists of food stocks that can be put together for meals.

If you would like to donate food to help insure their success, donations of pasta, canned vegetables and fruits, cereals, canned meats, tuna fish, peanut butter & jelly would be appreciated.  Drop your donation of food stuffs off at New Jerusalem Tuesdays between 10am and 12pm.  New Jerusalem is located on CR 681 1.7 miles north of the blinking light downtown Bangor.  If you cannot drop off during indicated hours, please call the We Care office (427-9581) to make arrangements.  Checks are much appreciated too!  If you would like to donate money, please make the check out to We Care I.N.C. with “food pantry” on the memo line.  You can send it to We Care at P.O. FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Food For Thought is one of our newest outreach programs! Mary Blashill and Hollie Graber from South Haven’s First United Methodist Church have been purchasing high protein items to supplement the food packages on non-perishable goods that are distributed by our food pantries for a couple of years now that. 90/10% lean hamburger, chicken, beans and rice are the special components that make our grocery packages healthier for those receiving them. Items are purchased at wholesale prices and distributed to our pantries and dinner ministries once each month. Dollars to make the purchases come from grants and donations. Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution may do so by sending your check to We Care with “Food For Thought” written in the memo slot. You (right along with Hollie and Mary) will receive our thanks for a job well done!

You can make a contribution to any of the pantries or ministries listed above.  Most commonly needed are:

  • High protein items such as peanut butter, canned meats, beans, etc.
  • Canned soups
  • Complete Meals, ie: Spaghetti Noodles and Sauce, Macaroni and Cheese, etc.
  • Non-parishables such as canned fruits or vegitables, rices, beans, pasta, shelf-stable milk, cake or cookie mixes, etc.
  • Financial donations (to the We Care office)
