THE HOLIDAY SEASON!
“IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR”

The song goes exclaims it and then tells about the many different things happening during this festive time. As in the song, there is a lot going on in the We Care offices.

This month’s Care Line issue is all about the holidays and this is your special invitation to consider how you and your family or friends might share your holiday joy with someone less fortunate. Many of the folks coming to We Care right now are facing a home without heat, Thanksgiving without a turkey or Christmas without all of the trimmings.
Please take the time to read about the sharing opportunities available to you. Prayerfully consider how you might donate so that another person’s holiday season might be a little bit brighter, a little bit warmer or filled with a little bit of the love God has for us all. Give one of our offices a call and let us know how you would like to share your time, your abilities or your financial or material resources!

  • Thanksgiving Meal Baskets – Although we do not have a “formal” ministry, we match approximately 80 families who need a Thanksgiving meal each year with donors who want to provide a meal basket. If you are interested in participating, a meal basket should include all of the ingredients for this holiday meal.
  • Christmas Meal Baskets – As with Thanksgiving, it should include all of the ingredients that you would use if you were fixing your own holiday meal. Christmas “goodies” are a nice addition.
  • Adopt-A-Family – The purpose of this ministry is to provide families with a complete meal basket and a gift for each member of the family. We have a family (or families) that are just the right size for your budget plus gift ideas and specific sizes that are needed.
  • When providing a Meal Basket, the food items/meal could be placed in a brightly wrapped box, laundry basket or plastic storage bin with a Christmas bow.
  • Project Santa/The Christmas Hope Project – We actually have two Project Santa ministries, one in Bangor sponsored by Simpson UMC) and one in South Haven (sponsored by First Assembly of God). Both ministries provide children- ages infant through 17 years old, with brand new toys and age appropriate gifts. Parents do the “shopping” so it’s personalized for each child. There will be drop boxes for donations in both communities or you may contact us for information on where your gift(s) might be delivered. Toys, hats, mittens, and scarves as well as other donations need to be donated no later than December 11th as it takes a large effort and a good amount of time to prepare for distribution. Over 800 children will be blessed through this wonderful ministry.

Thank you for considering this wonderful opportunity to make a difference. It is truly appreciated! Please contact our office early in the season to let us know how you want to participate. For your convenience, you may contact us with your intentions by phone or by e-mailing us at South Haven: 637-4342 or wecaresh@wecare-inc.org; Bangor: 427-9581 or wecarebangor@wecare-inc.org.
